A couple of projects I've been working on this week. The first is a twin trunks project. The truth is these two trees are from two other failed projects. The one was part of a phoenix graft that just never went right. I cut my losses and went another way. The trunk that is split was a idea stolen from Andy Smith. If you go to his website he has a couple of trees intermingled. In my attempt, one tree died. This is the merger of those two projects. Maybe it'll work together over time.

The second tree was gathered with many other for a future forest project. I potted all of them and put them in the ground for the summer. This one took off, got some bad taper issues in just one summer. For the last four years I have been doing some harsh cranking twisting, bending, breaking, cutting...get the picture!! I would do something to it in the spring and then let it grow freely all summer.

The screw through the sacrificed top was put there to twist the tree. It worked pretty well but the wire was put around it so I didn't simply crack the trunk and lose my twisting leverage. It's kinda fun to have a tree that you don't really mind losing and can be experimental with. It's in it's first pot and had a ways to go, but it's starting off right. I'll have to carve a lot of extra dead weight off in certain spots. I'm not sure which side will be my front. Both have their pluses and minuses.

In the first picture of the twisted tree the branch that goes up and to the left is the branch I kept, just for a frame of reference.

Here are the two possible fronts. Either way I have some carving to do.
