Hello folks! My Japanese Maples have started sprouting earlier than expected due to the unexpected heat we’ve had at the beginning of March. Normally, I was going to repot them in the beginning of April, but this is an unusual situation.

It’s been about two years since I last repotted them, so it’s definitely time to change their pots.

I’m wondering, is it safe to repot them now, or should I wait until later this week since I need to order some bigger pots? Any advice from fellow plant enthusiasts? 🌿

A little on the late side for sure. I would still repot it because that soil looks mucky and wet.

I've repotted maples right through to leaves fully open without adverse effects.
Changing soil is no problem but I'd probably be less aggressive on root reduction as the leaves open further.

Absolutely, we have also. Aftercare is key. Keep out in open shade for a couple weeks afterwards. Avoid fertilizer for 3-4 weeks and then at half strength.

Cheers
