Tom P Progression Thread- Japanese Black Pine

I thought I would start a new progression thread. This is a Japanese Black Pine I bought from Bjorn in 2022. It was originally grown at Telperion Farms and was part of an estate that Bjorn was handling. Estimated age probably 30 or so years.


We did an initial styling. I decided to keep the branch coming from the inside curve in hopes of lowering it later





In March of 2023 we potted it into this Yamaaki container. Bjorn was a lot more aggressive than I would have been but with the aid of a reciprocating saw we made it fit

Jumping ahead to November of 2023, we did some wedge cuts to lower the directional branch on the left and the second branch on the right

The tree recovered well. Here it is in June 2024 before decandling


Jumping forward to 2025. Here is the tree before the next major styling

Latest update

The tree after working with Kaya Mooney. Pads are developing. I still need to develop the apex and the nebari will need work at the next repot as I address the encircling roots. I've come a long way but have a long way to go
