I was looking to pick up some Anderson flats for this coming repot season, and was wondering if anyone had tried the TinyRoots Propagation Flats. They’re pretty similar to Anderson flats but with slightly different dimensions and a different mesh. Priced a little bit higher, but if they’re less flexible than Anderson flats, it would save on having to double them up or add reinforcement.

The inside measurements are 17.75" square by 4" deep.

Has anyone tried them? Any thoughts, especially as compared to Anderson flats? In particular, interested to know how the mesh performs and if they have less flex than Anderson flats.

I have a bunch of these, I’m planning to use these for deciduous trees and it’s not repot season yet but I like the size and they are pretty sturdy. I used some as seed trays and they work really well for that, I like how water collects over the mesh holes I’m sure it keeps it very humid in there. I’m going to have to use a larger grain size for the bottom because the mesh holes are slightly too large for 3mm-4mm size

Have you planted a tree in one? I’m curious what level of flex you experience when lifting a tree in one of these. If you give a light twist across the diagonal axis, how much does it twist?

Also oof, I just checked the price and it’s actually about twice the price of anderson flats. Even if I double those up as Ryan Neil and others suggest, it’s still about the same price.

Actually I think we’re talking about different products, sorry lol. This is what I’m using. I’ll be reporting a Korean hornbeam into one in a month or two, I’ll actually be reporting about 10 trees in total but the hornbeam will most likely be first . They do flex and doubling up is not a bad idea but I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary

Those are very expensive. I think I saw those before deciding on the begrit ones, they are very cheap in comparison

I have something similar, though I don't know if it's the exact same. I suspect they are even more flexible than Anderson deep propagation flats. Mine certainly are. I double up the AFLAT5 and they work well. You'd probably need to double these up as well, and I doubt it would be as effective.

I think you can also get the Anderson flats locally and avoid the horrific shipping. Snohomish Garden Center. Not sure what they charge though.

The only way to tell what’s a better deal is to try them. The Anderson flats are bigger and deeper but the begrit ones are like half the price

How many Andersons were you looking to buy?

I was about to say that those look exactly like the ones I am using for germinating seeds.

Everyone, I've been looking at Anderson flats and decided the minimum order and shipping costs are too high. Thanks for the alternatives!
