I'm looking for a source of Tiger Bark Ficus seeds. They are a little pricey on Amazon so I am looking a another possible source. I do have three Ginseng Ficus, but would like to try my hand at a Tiger Bark
Gotcha. That would be preferred but all of the stores around here sell gensing ficus. I'm not aware of anyone in my area that are bonsai enthusiasts and my main transportation is a recumbent trike. So I'm thinking seeds would be more into my budget.
That would be most awesome. I know how much fun it isn't to be laid up. This past winter I had both SI joints fused and recovery took longer than I thought. I was stuck in bed up until about a month ago. Sadly found out that the kids wasn't watering my trees so I will be starting fresh this spring with my outdoor trees. Gonna be getting a bunch of cuttings from my friends yards lol. I have a pretty nice ginseng Ficus that I started from a cutting last year, a couple of weeks ago I started another ginseng because the roots got tore up my a squirrel or a ferrel toddler. Here is my Ginseng, I just repotted it so the big roots have not faded yet. My gnome Bob keeps the critters away for me.If you haven't gotten any cuttings or seeds in 6 weeks (once my broken leg is mostly healed), I'll send you some rooted cuttings.
Set a reminder and PM me in 6 weeks time.
I would appreciate that a lot. I have a small cheap cutting greenhouse on its way so they really wouldn't need to be fully rooted. PM me for any costs and such.I can start some Tiger bark cuttings for you, if you want.
Good information to know. So if I were to spend $15 on a few seeds, it would be like spinning the wheel of a slot machine, I could get just a random tree. Is this also true for the Ginseng Ficus? Years of using a powerful prescribed opioid has mushed my memory so I have resorted to starting a bonsai notebook so that I can be reminded of little bits of tribal knowledge like this.Tiger bark is a selected clone of Ficus microcarpa so it can't really be grown from seed. If tiger bark sets fruit and had seed there's a high chance most of the seedlings would look like standard F. microcarpa and not like tiger bark. Any of the seedlings that did look like tiger bark would have other genetic differences like size, leaf size/shape, disease hardiness, etc.
It's great when our B'nut community rallies and helps other members out with access to plant material, help and advice. well done everyone who offered assistance here.
Yes to both. Write it down.Good information to know. So if I were to spend $15 on a few seeds, it would be like spinning the wheel of a slot machine, I could get just a random tree. Is this also true for the Ginseng Ficus?
Yes, I did today.Just curious if anyone has been able to start a few tiger bark cuttings for me yet?
