Interesting news story out of Missouri...

After this crap happened to him a few years ago

Website says I may not read it.

That is just sickening and so sad. The trees were like therapy to him and he wanted to share his passion. This world is turning to shit.
He might have decided to throw in the towel with the business but there is nothing stopping him from enjoying bonsai in the privacy of his back yard at some point in the future.

I agree though that to have someone passionate enough to want to share and teach get beaten down by the riff raff to the point he gives up is a sad thing to see.

Rent amounts to pennies in Missouri.....but the scumbags STILL steal!!! Heaven forbid somebody would actually work for a living and buy the things they like. Of course when the government basically supports dead-beats and criminals, you can't expect anyone to actually PAY for something.

Four year tuition for a liberal arts degree? Sure, we'll pay for a useless diploma!! Plenty of suckers like me around that work hard, struggle to stay afloat AND pay for dead-beats......

I feel bad for the guy. Trying to be a business man and provide services to a community......he'd get more love from city council if he was letting folks slang drugs out of his store.

Leave politics out of it. Government welfare programs for the poor have absolutely nothing to do with his trees being stolen.

If there is a story about bonsai being stolen and you immediately feel the urge to post about the government supporting criminals and liberal arts degrees being useless, and you have to use the word 'dead-beats' over and over, I STRONGLY suggest you get some counseling and talk to a professional about this.

Politics is where we set the tax rate. This isn't politics.

It’s true though… I like this forum for the break from the usual political BS.

Maybe a politics sub for those that want to butt heads over whatever?
Maybe you need to rethink that . You triggered Lance with your comments. He obviously doesn't care what you think, so why trigger him? Ya get it?

How did I trigger him!?!? I think your comment is aimed at @Lorax7

No?

Jeez. Why does this have to be a knock down drag out dumbass political BS thing. Theft is theft. Petty theft is petty theft. The circumstances of the thievery are that the guy apparently left stuff lying around after load out for the show. I have no idea what the exact situation is, but thieves are thieves and have been for quite a while regardless of their liberal arts degrees, or who is president...

I feel badly for the owner but I don't understand, after all the thievery the shop owner has had, that he didn't install some kind of alarm or cameras. They don't cost that much

From the way I read the story and FB posts, the theft did NOT happen at the guy's shop, but at the Japan Festival after it closed. Cameras at the shop wouldn't have helped.

i was commenting something similar as you posted this. in an interview he even says after his first theft of his nicest trees that he didnt want to ruin the "look" of his garden with security measure like barbed wire etc. and sure those may not have done much more, but to do nothing is just bad practice. i hope he finds enjoyment in the hobby again, maybe business wasnt the path for him. Its always terrible to see something destroyed to no apparent fault of your own. even worse when there are things you could have done. No blame to the guy for whats happened. just thoughts.

Also found the police report humourous saying that due to them being bonsai trees it should be easier to recover. which makes me think theyre not even looking for them ofc.

Also the most recent thefts to him seem to have happened as stated above at a festival, i suppose he had assumed that either security would be there and securing things, or he had faith in people. either way terrible assumptions. Id have hawk eyes on trees at an open festival.

this feels like burn me once shame on you, burn me twice shame on me, burn me three times i must be doing something wrong

For what it is worth, festival organizers claimed he did not pick up trees on designated tear down day, Monday, but did not come until Tuesday to claim his trees and props. I don't know if this statement from the organizers is true, but when I exhibit at shows, I make sure I get there to pick my stuff up at close. Or I have someone do it for me. If the organizer's claim is true, he contributed to the opportunity for theft by leaving his trees beyond the time when security was supposed to be provided. It does not make the theft excusable. But if you leave your trees past the tear down day, what do you expect?

That is assuming the news article was accurate, we all know sometimes the newspapers get it wrong.

I don't have my trees in the front yard, I don't leave my bicycle laying on the sidewalk or street in front of the house and I lock my car and don't leave keys in it. My front door has a lock on it. Common sense helps keep from being a victim. I should not have to take precautions, but because I do I have only had one burglary about 30 years ago.

I live in a economically depressed city, because real estate was cheap, but crime is high, have had little trouble because I don't expect everyone to be good.

This 1000 times. If you look at the thread about the 2022 Kokufu-Ten, Yamabudoudanshi posted a pic right as they were closing the exhibition where the MAN itself Kimura was picking up his trees. And that is in Japan, where there is a little respect still for others property.

That aspect bothered me too. I have done shows on other things and would NEVER let any time pass after the time alotted to remove your items.
It puts it in a category of a tragic event that could have been averted.

Not right, but security has to be the exhibitor's main responsibility.
