Cars going off into the trees can help us pull larger trees faster.
This was our caravan:
First thing I saw was tracks going into the trees. Into, not through.

If you don't see it above, I'm using the caution tape to flag my find.

Evan said it was funny how were there only five seconds and I'm already cutting on a tree.
Here's the tree after initial potting. I figure by the growth that the accident happened some time last year.

The tree has a large scar from the accident. The edge of the wound is callusing nicely. The upper part of the tree was fairly flush with growth. I'll be removing the little twigs to encourage budding across the trunk.
As for my other find:
While, others were topping their trees, as seen later at the potting party...

... I shoved an entire tree into the back of my SUV.

Totally worth it.

It has a great base

And great taper.

I'll be keeping my eye on these buds to see how the tree is adapting. I expect this won't work well and I'll wish I had topped it too. We'll see.
