After doing a big prune on this Parson's juniper, I noticed my tanuki is coming along pretty well. This tree had a pretty severe reverse taper that really caught your eye. I added a carved piece of cypress to the base with wood glue/sawdust paste. When dry, I blended it in with my charcoal/water mixture. In the first pic you can see the actual line of the trunk. That has pretty much has disappeared. Those that don't really look closely would believe this tree has a decent base flair. There is still a bit of reverse taper higher up, but that doesn't seem to bother me much.
