Catagonia
Yamadori
10 days ago I bought an Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Goshiki' with interesting roots. Evergreen shrub, not much used in bonsai from what I can find.
So my question is about how to care for it after I got it home and excitedly bare rooted and trimmed it. (Not my usual treatment of a new plant but I was curious about the roots and got carried away.)
I put it in a layer of spaghnum moss to recover. But the leaves are falling off and I’m rethinking that choice. My typical mix for this sort of situation is cactus soil plus a whole bunch of pumice.
The last two weeks are usually some of the coldest times here (California, Sacramento region). This year it has been pretty mild, no frost yet, but it could happen and usually does. The plant is currently outside in a sunny spot and has gotten enough rain to keep the moss damp.
Any suggestions? Appreciate it, thanks.
