Stressed JBP

I would like to ask a few questions from the community.

I purchased a JBP over a week ago and it has been in transit for 8 days. It will arrive Stressed due to lack of both water and sunlight. It is Coming in from California and i live in the mountains of North Carolina. It will be cooler here if that factors into the response. Here is a photo of the tree

What can i do to help it minimize Damage. Certainly I will water it throughly, my deck has a roof over it to try and gradually Acclimate. The forcast is for high's In mid to low 70's and nightime temps mid to upper 40's. The front deck is exposed to east, south and west sunlight. My other trees have been outdoors for about 3 weeks except for a couple of nights. Should i gradually acclimate to full sun and water as frequently As needed. Should i add any fertilizer To it.

It is supposed To arrive today a full 8 days in transit restricted of Water and light. Your suggestions and guidance will be greatly Appreciated.
 
I have this idea for an app where you could plug in your location, work location, title and qualifications, to find a closer employer that would agree to an employee swap, so you can find a job closer to home.

When you watch the traffic on both sides of the highway at a standstill, don't you ever think most of these people are traveling passed each other to go to a different town to do the same damn shit they coulda done within walking distance?

Anyway, we should make one of these for East and West Bonsai Purchases too.

Link with someone to buy the tree you found close to them while you buy the one they found close to you.

We gotta stop shipping things.

It's kinda like buying a Nice New Car but with a mandatory gauntlet run where it may or may not be completely destroyed before you get it.

Do you know where in California it’s coming from? It shouldn’t be too stressed but I would say you have the right idea. Partial sun and water and gradually get it to full sun in a couple weeks. Next time maybe pay to expedited shipping too, probably worth it when you’re spending decent money on a tree.

Sometimes you just have to wait until you get the tree and let it talk to you, it will tell you what it needs.

I am sure you are speaking from experience and i appreciate you replying. I know that sometimes things fly over My head but i am searching for the pearls In your response.

I think @sorce just had a really nice wake and bake session today. If I had to guess, his main point was to find trees more local to home next time and avoid the risk of hurting the tree.

I’m sure he can further confuse you with another explanation though 😂
 
Trees travel far better than most of us imagine. I post the majority of the trees I sell here. They don't seem to use water as much when packed in a dark box so trees that are accustomed to daily watering in the nursery arrive safe and well after a week in a box through postal service.
Certainly give it a good soak when you unpack.
I would not bother with gradual introduction to sun. 8 days is not really long enough for the tree to readjust so foliage will still be accustomed to sun.

Interested to see how it looks when it arrives.
 
Sounds like you are more stressed than the tree here. I had this happened too many times so I understand. I have experienced with USPS where the tracking said it delivered but I never see the package until a month later. I think the tree will be fine if well packed.
 
It will be fine. I bought an old Japanese black pine from Seattle last year and it experience the worst possible shipping conditions and made it out ok. Japanese black pines love our North Carolina climate!
 
Probably will be fine. Water it well when you get it and out it out in the sun. Don't fuss over it. Don't fertilize right away, it won't need it right away. See how it looks first and go from there.

Post pics when you get it and if anything seems amiss let us know.

Thank you for talking me off the ledge. I am hoping it enjoys the climate. It did arrive this afternoon and it looks just fine. Watered it and nestled it in with the others and will watch it close.

The climate here in western seems almost tropical. Only han a handful of days below 32° and 19° was the lowest. The area that i live buts up to nantahala National Forest. So i will cross my fingers.

To help with my understanding of Bonsai I am enrolled in a year long course at the North Carolina Arboretum With the curator of the bonsai display. Excited about that.
