Slip potting japanese maple to change angle

Hi all,

I recently picked up this JM. Right now it's planted at quite an angle, and I was wondering if there would be an issue if I slip potted it to change the planting angle. I'm hoping to develop this trunk to be more of an informal upright, though obviously that's a long while out.

I've attached pics of the tree with the current angle and another that I've rotated to show the intended angle.

A proper angle change will likely be more aggressive then a slip pot.

Who's maple was it that @Brian Van Fleet was talking about surgical cuts with?
It looks like that chop could be cleaned up sooner than later.

I picked this up from Eric Group who did the trunk chop and sealed it before it came into my hands. I'm inclined to believe that his work is better than anything I'd do to the tree. It seems to be healing well, but I'm no expert..

hahaha, what's your take, BVF? To recut or let it heal?

Looks fine, let it heal. Over time, the angle will soften.
