I built this grow table today. It was very simple to build. The total cost was almost $250. cause' of the stainless steel hardware and the 2" black iron pipes.I like the simplicity of it though.Instead of putting the pipes in concrete,I just put a couple 2' long x 6" round PVC pipes in the ground and stuck the iron pipes down into them and just dumped sand into the PVC to surround the iron pipes and make them secure.I did not want to use concrete incase I needed to move them someday. The 2" x8' black iron pipes is what made it expensive. They were $101.I put a clear polycarb roof on it.

Can you please educate me on the purpose of the clear polycarbonate roof?

Hello,Nathanbs. The reason I like the rain shelter is because my soil has a portion of potting soil in it.Otherwise my trees would dry-out when I work. What I have noticed though is that in early spring and late fall It stays a bit too soggy, especially if there is a couple storms in a row. With the rain shelter I can achieve better wet/dry cycles during them months.I also like the clear poly-carb for my deciduous. The leaves stay on trees longer in autumn and I can enjoy the colors longer. Thanks!

seems expensive to me. I would have opted for PT 2x4 or maybe even 4x4. I think it would have been a good bit less expensive and still lasted a good long time. I'm using some regular lumber and some PT on bricks or 2x8x16 cinder blocks as a base. They've withstood everything that Mother Nature throws our way for going on 8 years. And these happened to be free salvage from when I replaced the railing on my deck.

I made a couple adjustments, like the center support and a couple support beams on each side.I feel it is complete. This table is going to house my zelkova brooms this growing season. My pines are on it now, until it warms a bit, then they will go in the full sun.

It does look well built and the canopy should help to provide a well-diffused light and hopefully prevent scorch or too much sun, which I have a problem with later in the summer. I have about 5 benches and have to be mindful of what trees are where depending on the time of year.
Looks good, cmeg. It should take care of that pesky rain.

Nicely done.

Question. Have you considered using something like these?

They are adjustable, you can have several layer of shelves if you want, easy, and cheap too! They do not look as cool as yours though. :)[/QUOTET]

Thanks Poink.I actually never did consider using something like that.Definately more affordable. All my stuff is lightweight that I grow and I also have groundhogs that would just love to reach up and grub out on my trees. Thanks though!
