I started a Silver Maple forest in 2021 with seedlings from mature trees in my yard. This is the forest today in 2024

I decided to break the forest up and have some fun.

I separated the 4 out that had the best root spread and put them on tiles

The rest I made into future clumps with washers

Hopefully I get some good results from some of them. It was 4 hours of work but I think it will be worth it.

I forgot to give a thanks to @SeanS for motivating me to give the washer fusion method a try. Hopefully it works for me like it did for him. I put all the washer project into root pouches. IMG_6058.jpegIMG_6055.jpeg

These have grown quite a bit this year. I had them all in one pot so it slowed their growth previous years. Some of the leaves are gigantic.

1000012441.jpgI'm Experimenting with a tanuki Silver maple project myself. I'm wanting to thicken the main branches more and am not sure if I should let them each have a sacrifice branch or just start structuring and ramifing next year. What y'alls thoughts? Also new on this site. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post
