Hey Everyone,

I am clearing out the house and I have a signed pot by Jim Smith. This pot was given to my dad, Gil Courson, who worked as a photojournalist for the Florida Today newspaper in the 70's & 80's. He trained under Jim Smith of Vero Beach Florida. I remember running around Jim's nursery as a kid while my Dad trained. He shot the photo for the paper and entered it in some journalism contest. My dad passed one year after Jim and I think this pot and photo belongs in a workshop, greenhouse, or home that will appreciate it. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me, Chris Courson. The link for the listing on ebay is below, it seems the safest thing for me and a buyer to sell there. I have no idea how much it is worth, so I was just spit-balling with my price. I have a lot of other pots on there already and more to go up.

Never seen a signature on a pot lead to inflated value, but there’s a first for everything!

Like I said, I have no idea what a value for that would be. Here is a link for info on Jim who is in the national museum www.bonsai-nbf.org/. I have best offer on it and have sold some other pots in bids my dad had for hundreds. If I start low nowhere to go but down :). No anger/drama here, thanks for taking a look pandacular. I am sure I will be dropping the price or accepting other offers.

I spent a wonderful day at the Jim Smith collection in Heathcote Gardens https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/visit-to-jim-smith-bonsai-collection.56577/ He was a great artist and innovator! Good luck with your sale.
Thanks Michael, I was pretty young hanging out at his home and nursery. We went there shortly after seeing Karate Kid. We went as a family and picked out some Ficus and all made our own. Jim was very nice and I remember seeing his trees and thinking "wow he is better than Mr. Miyagi!"
