I potted this tree today. I am just curious if I need to let it grow this year unimpeded, or if I can start candle cutting again in the summer to reduce needles. The heavy bends were made last year and it was potted with minimal root disturbance. The copper wire is very loose but I’m only really using it to keep the shape I started with that was fairly set. If anyone has any advice on how to reduce the damage from wire cutting on the turn near the middle of the tree I would appreciate that as well.

For your first question, as long as the tree is in good shape decandling should be fine…

As for the second question, that would of best been addressed before wiring with raffia, vet tape etc before wiring. Then you could leave the wire on a bit longer.

In any event watch for the wire biting in. JBP’s should be allowed to bite in a bit before taking off the wire
