Tidal Bonsai

After filling my car with procumbens junipers this season to prepare vending at the NJBS Art of Bonsai Show, I stumbled on as “serpentine” procumbens that was worth keeping.


The trees age, gentle taper, and interesting movement was too good to let go of. Since I found it shaded, sitting in water, and in pure bark soil… getting it healthy came before a styling. The roots were teased out and put in a big pond basket of pumice. I also applied a guy wire to bring the apex closer to the rest of the tree.


I plan on keeping the whole tree for a large literati/bunjin, but we will see where this one goes
