Self Pruning Bonsai Pots!!

Ok.....so someone needs to tell my why this is not cool.Since I had this idea about 20 minutes ago I must say I still like it

Many probably know I totally did the Rootpouch containers for starts.
Especially in Pine seedling cutting propogation and any other start.I get roots on the seedling cuttings super dense like 1/2” from trunk on quite large stock.
Then the pots just peal off!
Roots so dense can be done like ANY TIME OF YEAR ALMOST!!!

Ok the sciance.....These Rootpouch brand are the only I know of that prune by entrapment in the fibers( entrapment pruning)....not air pruning!!!

These pots come in different weaves that last submerged in any soil for pre determined times of 12-15 mnths or 1-5? Years.They self prune greatly!!! with only a few roots poking through.
They sell quite large sizes in various weaves....

Ok...so I had the idea to line a bonsai pot to see if I can get the same effect.
Are circling roots cool?
Am I missing something?
I have really no outdoor bonsai longevity experiance for the record.
Is there any reason this is not awesome?

When one of my trees finally get to a pot stage.....I’m trying it.

These peel of with minimal effort AS LONG AS YOU LET THEM GET REALLY DENSE AND QUITE HARD ROOTS IN THE POUCH.

Honestly just so they are quite firm...then they peel right away with ease and actually invigorate all the dense roottips that have been doing nothing but branching.....take a look at mine!
Only had to snip bottoms of the rootball.Pouch was hard as a rock with no detriment to the pine tree other than dwarfing a bit(could be good actually).

This tree approaching 5 mnths old!!
At this rate be in a pot in two years haha

I believe this bonsai pot liner Idea will work.

I feel really dumb but am not understanding how the roots aren't wrapping-around, if not for aerial pruning... I know you said it's not but I'm not grasping the mechanism by which that cloth makes a root stop lengthening & start ramifying, I mean that is accomplished by elimination of the root's growing-tip, no? And aerial-pruning accomplishes this obviously, but it looks like you're just lining pots with that material I'm so confused why the roots wouldn't hit it and just run-alongside it just like with plastic?

Sorry maybe I need a 2nd coffee (good idea considering I'm already late for my day ) but just don't get it & really want to, I think aerial root-pruning is almost "requisite" horticulturally, I've got drilled cement-mixing tubs that're sitting fallow because I've begun using hardware cloth (thick metal mesh), lined with porous shade-cloth, to make ghetto "oversized grow-bags" (have a 4' long one, situated in an un-drilled mortar-mixing tub, to keep a BC with both aerial-prune and standing-water, it seems to be liking it )

Makes the garden ugly because I'm McGuyvering my way to containers now, hope this doesn't feel like a thread-hijack but I'd love a name or two of brands-or-retailers to order cheap growbags or grow-baskets for medium-->large bonsai so I can stop making these ridiculous containers I've been doing lately

No..its cool.They entangle in the fabric immediately.They rarely poke through ....and just branch back.
Proof is in the photo.....this tree never root pruned.
Also look at manufacturer photos.
These pots can store into other media or ground withought having to dig roots that grow through pot.
I think they awesome!

Curtis, any update on this one? Did you moved the pine into the pot? I ordered some #1 and #3 Rootpouch bags last month and will be moving some trees into the #3 with some inorganic media (pumice/lava/bonsai block/monto clay) to plant in a grow bed covered by mulch on the sides. I have used Bonsai Jack mix before, but this will be the first time trying the Monto clay and the bonsai block as a main ingredient. I thought about going straight pumice and lava, but it is very windy and hot here and the last thing I wanted was for them to dry too much. In the #1 I may use straight pumice or get some perlite. I also think about buying a small (24 cell) aeroponic cloner to start cuttings from my trident and my Japanese quince.
