A recent thread on FB caused me to take a picture of my Seiryu maple and some offspring. I know that none of the young are officially Seiryu ... I don't care. A rose by any other name...........

Mature Tree, 30+ years from a gallon nursery pot.

Impressive specimen.
What are you looking for in Seiryu seedlings?

Rich diversity. The fine cut leaf forms will likely resemble the mother. First year I just allow them to grow. Then I will put them in different groupings that have similar habits.

How many seedlings are you growing? Done any culling yet?

The four year old seedling is pretty interesting. I don't know anything about Japanese maple but a tree which (per the photo) throws the odd albino leaf would be a very interesting specimen.

New leaves are coming in light color with a red tinge. I believe it will turn green.

The range of seedlings looks typical of Seryu seedlings here too. I get leaves of all shapes with a small proportion of lace leaf like the parent that I select and grow on to see what they will turn out like as they mature.
