Second chop and leader question on Montezuma Cypress

Earlier this spring I chopped the first leader and started a second one on a MC.... Thing really has taken off!
Questions...
Should I be carving the second chop before it closes up?
Should I be chopping the second leader now... its over 3' tall?

I am unsure, I plan on watching to see what more experienced minds say. I’m leaning towards wait till next growth but this section will also thicken after chop. Time of year matters too and I’m unsure about that as well. I think it would be like collecting bald cypress and you chop before the buds break out. But that’s pure guess work as none of my trees are that far along.
