The right hand side branch has been the second dropping branch on this tree that I've been developing since 2017.
This was my first collected tree and even though it's a difficult subject, I have never given up on it.

The first dropping branch was jinned two years ago. The one that took over became spindly and hasn't grown as healthy as the rest of the tree. It is time I let it go to move the tree forward.

It's been a pleasure. Catch you on the flip side.

Thanks JudyB!
When putting it away, I noticed that the other side looks amazing. The side I pictured is a bit scruffy.

I'll do some needle pulling in January, but the back budding (according to the care sheet I uploaded) is there.

In this single branch removal, I opened the way for a tighter design. But it was hard to remove something I've built for so many years.

This right here is the reason some never move their trees forward. Also hesitation on how to even start working on a tree can stop progress. I find that if I just start doing one thing, then I'll find the way forward. Cheers for you getting it going.

Nice work. Is it worth wiring the jin out to better frame the negative space on the right?
Seems a little unnatural to see the two branches hanging straight down, surely they'd have come off / been shortened in nature?

Yes it is worth it! But I'm not going to. :)

The scots pines that grow in the wild here all have this typical ramrod straight trunk and some bent branches up top.
All dead branches they keep, are dangling ones like the ones I made. Always close to the trunk.
It does look awkward, but it's what I see all around me and I like capturing that.
To me, it's perfectly natural.
I kind of like the empty space too, it makes the lean more.. Leany?
