Started styling this guy today (honestly not much to do up top, they already look like little trees) and found it to be super root bound. Do I need to slip pot it now or will it make it until spring?

Sorry to see this didn't get answered right away. Also welcome!
I would pot this to the next size until fall but I am in FL, fall doesn't happen until December here. If you are in a cold area wait until spring maybe. What did you end up doing?

If you are in a cooler climate i would wait til mid Sept, soak it in a pan of water then just tease the root tips out a bit to get them moving into the new soil then pot up in a slightly bigger pot otherwise you risk drying out too much over the Winter.

Yes what did you end up doing?

If you merely slip pot and not repot the core
will remain more dry and probably promote decline.

Where are you? Should edit your profile to include
your general location and USDA grow zone.
That will dial in a proper fitting reply.
Zone 4 or 5 safe to repot after this heat dome passes.
Zone 6 and 7 after the heat of Summer lowers to ~80°F normal avg but well before 1st frost expectancy.

In the meantime to properly wet the core
you'll need to soak in a container till bubbles begin to stop rising.

soak it in a pan of water then just tease the root tips out a bit to get them moving into the new soil then pot up

I've always worked the roots when they were just needing watering. More pliable and less damage I've heard.

Thanks all. Ended up teasing out root tips and slip potting. It's tolerating it well so far!
