Repotting larger trees unassisted, part 2 - Techniques for repotting single-handed
I was taught to work the root mass sequentially, starting at the point of greatest limitation, then moving on to each subsequent one, until the tree is able to be secured in the container. Most often, this means starting at the base to reduce the height of the root mass and to set the correct planting angle.
