Hi friends. My new bonsai survived the winter and is looking very healthy as we start spring weather here.

Based on suggestions from the previous owner and some research I've done, I want to repot this beautiful tree into something a bit bigger (preferably the same shape and diameter, but just a little deeper). My thinking is a bigger pot will help control moisture in our very hot summer months and may help protect it a bit more from cold snaps in the winter. The inner depth of the pot is about 2 to 3 inches and is about the same as the diameter of the trunk, so I'm not sure if it actually makes sense to put it in something deeper. Curious what you all think.

I'd be nervous taking that tree into my summer in that pot. I agree that the only dimension that needs changing is depth.

Agree. If the tree isn’t pot bound at this point, it would be soon enough. Where are you location wise?

Deeper pots make much sense in hot and dry climates. I've gradually changed my shallower pots to deeper versions and the trees do so much better now.
