Repoting Tropicals

Hello everyone.
I have a Chinese Privet that I would like to repot now since I believe it is rootbound
My intentions were to repot it during the summer but I never came around to do it.
I know I'm supposed to repot in the spring and wanted to know what are your thoughts on repoting now.
The tree has stopped growing and I believe it's in its dormant state.
I live in NJ and Temps where the tree is located inside my house is in the low 70's

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can tropicals be repoted during any time of the year?

Tropicals are best repotted in summer when they are growing vigorously and can recover much quicker. Repotting now puts a big stress on the tree as it is not growing, it probably won't die, but it'll be less happy then it would be staying pot bound IMO.

I'd wait till vigorous growth starts again.
Mid summer is best for trops.

You could slip pot it if you want into a larger pot, but I don't think it's wise to mess with tropical roots in the winter.

The 5 we bought from the UK, did very well for about 3 years, and then just faded away.
This was done over a period of two buying trips in the UK.
Sad, they were very pretty shrubs.

Now retrying with a local supply, but thus far too soon.
