I've been thinking of replacing lava in a boon mix with granulated zeolite. It seems like a workable replacement and as far as I can tell would up the CEC of the mix. I do know it holds more water but I'm not sure if that would make a big difference since it's a pretty free draining mix already. Would there be any drawbacks?

I just started using zeolite this year.
I mixed volcanic (pozzolan) akadama, kiryiuzuna, zeolite and turf.
I've read lots of good things about zeolite, and not a single negative point.

Cool thanks for the info!

I have been using zeolite, pumice, lava for a couple of years and my trees are happy.

Mattie91... What is your take on what zeaolite does for the mixture? Does it stay together like lave, pumice etc or fall apart? Does zelote come in a nugget form/shape like 1/4" or so? I have heard that is stays pretty damp so might not be advisable for damp parts of the country. Thanks for the learn.

Careful breathing zeolite, I guess it can give you lung cancer or something like that. Probably scratches up your lungs like esboesdoes. People eat zeolite as a detox thing. It is pretty expensive.

Zeolite should be ok for development. Yet Zeolite has a very high CEC, so one might want to back away from it for trees approaching refinement. Otherwise the growth can’t ever be slowed as much as one would desire.
