Refined JBP maintenance

There are alot of thick branches lying on the floor @Adair M were you nervous cutting them all out?

Nice trunk, expensive looking nice pot;).
Well...

I had nothing to do with the trunk! Nor the making of the pot!

The trunk has not really changed in my 5 or 6 years of owning this tree. There is a fairly large pruning scar on the back that’s slowly closing. But once a tree is put into a bonsai pot, the trunk doesn’t change. The bark will get a little better with time. This isn’t a Mikawa, so it won’t develop really thick plates.

It’s in a nice pot for sure. I guess it was my decision to use that pot, but the tree would look good in many pots.

What I can take credit for is the shape of the pads, the needle management, the fullness, having foliage close to the trunk, and overall refinement. Every year I spend several days pulling needles, decandling, thinning excess shoots, fertilizing, watering, spraying and generally fussing over this tree! This past winter it took me several days to just remove the wire I had put on it 4 years ago! Next fall it will take me 3 or 4 days to rewire it!

So, thanks for the complement about the trunk and the pot! Lol!!!

Thank you for documenting and sharing, as always ?

I think a lot of trees are allowed to outgrow their design because people are scared to cut something that looks good enough now, so this is very refreshing!
