Redwood stump project

I had to remove this coastal redwood while building my shade cloth awning last fall. As you can see in the picture I repurposed the trunk as a support post. I removed the stump, greatly reduced and flattened the root ball and potted it up. At the time not really sure what I wanted to do with it then decided to try and represent a lightning strike or a survivor of fire do to the fact that there was just too much trunk/stump to work with. I'm thinking that the two new trunks (suckers) will fuse to the stump over time and mature with bark and have a more natural look. I have considered burning the carved out (chain saw) portion. Any thought or advice would be appreciated.
