I posted this in my thread asking for what to see in Portland but thought I would re-post in a new thread with some pictures.

I managed to find some time to visit Ryan Neil’s Bonsai Mirai while traveling. I highly recommend making the trip if you ever get the chance. I found Ryan very approachable and easy to talk to. It was easy to see his genuine passion for bonsai. I chatted with him and admired his trees for a little over an hour while he was watering. I could have easily stayed longer but I didn’t what to overstay my welcome. The cost of admission was free after all.

His collection of trees is fantastic. It is hard to believe that most of the collection has been in training for less than three years. It is a testament to what can be done with top quality material in a very short amount of time. It was a little humbling knowing that many of the trees are well over a hundred years old.

The garden itself was beautiful. It is a work in progress but very easy to see the direction it is heading. Everything being done is very high quality. Nothing is being done half way. The garden is very well laid out with lots of room to grow.

If you ever find yourself in the Portland area make it a point to pay Ryan a visit.

Very inspiring to see pictures of his collection may be someday I will visit...

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing. Visiting this nursery is on my bucket list. Now, surely you took more than 3 pictures. SDHC card dump!!!

:)

It is amazing out there! I visited in Feb. when everything was still on the ground in case of cold weather, but it was still a humbling experience. I highly recommend the trip to anyone and everyone. I took a lot of pictures but promised to only use them for private use. Sorry.

Your Pt.?

So the point for your post is what? jeanluc didn't have any problems posting.

To second the opinion that Bonsai Mirai is a great place to visit...

I really don't see my offence here?

Jeanluc was obviously not under the same obligation I am... I'm sorry if this bothers you. I seriously didn't think anyone would be so easily offended.

First, there seems to be a sense of arrogance that "I've been there and you haven't". Second, no pic's but others seem to post pic's...does that make you special? (pat on your back...now go shave). Third, learn to spell "offense" cowboy.

The joys if internet correspondence. .. I'm sorry that my enthusiasm came across as arrogance.

Perhaps someone should ask what your POINT IS reddog? There was nothing wrong with Dan's post????

Jeanluc...thanks for sharing...any chance you took any closer photos of the stones under the bench in the first picture?

No need to apologize...guess I'm envious and I look forward to one day visiting ryan neil's place. You are fortunate.

LOL. I thought I was the only one. First thing that I noticed when I saw the pic #1 was the stone at the bottom front most. It looks awesome. :)

Yes, more photos would be nice, thanks for posting these. Did you see any deciduous trees at all???

Ryan is my teacher and I've been to his place. It's about a 3 hr drive from mine. No doubt he's an amazing talent and with first pick of randy's trees, it's pretty hard to beat. I do agree that he's passionate and motivated about bonsai.

Did they say why? I hope he's not sick, or injured.

Could be that he wants to spend time with his wife who's due in Nov? But either way Dick, a real bummer!

Whatever it is, I think the professional thing to do is give proper reason and notification if you are cancelling prior commitments...and as early as possible. Not through rumor and from someone else like another event prior.
