I'm just starting out in the world of bonsai, but I've learned enough to know that I need to get organized when it comes to the work area - bench/table, trays, forms, pots, etc. I know this isn't a must have, but in a fairly chaotic world, the idea of an organized work space for my bonsai is very satisfying.

My current sad back shaded patio setup consists of a long outdoor table with a few JMs (2.5", 4", 6" pots) directly on the table which appears to be degrading before my eyes. I also have one lonely Trident Maple sitting atop a cafe table on our front patio where it gets plenty of sun.

I'm interested in having a secure platform for my pots, to include accommodations for water run-off and airflow. I also want to transition to standardized pots that fit securely on the table. I'm overwhelmed with all this and can't seem to figure out what I need. Is there a modular solution? I know there is "stuff" out there. I just don't know what works together, so your input and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I would assume pot size may be a driving factor, but maybe one solution can accommodate various pot sizes. I hope all this makes sense.

Have a look through this thread..... https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/show-us-your-bonsai-benches.31934/

Thank you. I'm slowly looking through that when I have the time. Currently on page 2, lol.

A local bonsai friend has actually spelled it out for me though. Basically it looks like my solution will consist of 1020 mesh trays (e.g. Daisy Trays), form trays to accommodate a few pot sizes, and of course the appropriately sized pots. Obviously this is for the larger quantity of stock in the earlier years that I'm just growing and shaping.

From the looks of that thread provided above, I guess water runoff isn't an issue. You just let everything splash down onto the wood or whatever bench/table surface and let it deteriorate over time. I'm only on page 2, but haven't seen folks making a big to-do about that yet.
