I notice some of you advocate strongly for an August (or late summer) time for repot.

What is your outside temp when you do it? I keep thinking that a 1-2 month space of insult to cold weather would be less than ideal.

No?

😒

I'm in zone 5b, the farm where I also have some trees is in 6a. Generally beginning 15th August my night temps regularly go below 65, often below 60 F. Daytime highs in low 80's. The farm is an average of 5 degrees cooler at night. The farm gets Lake effect, summer cooling, in 2018 the farm had zero days above 90 F. At home in IL we average fewer than 10 days over 90F. This year we might have had 13 days over 90F.

Given the relatively mild summers, I have had good luck with summer repotting. I try to get done before Sept 1. Our average first frost is October 15, though lately it has been later.
