Hoping to understand 2 fold question on this species. Bought 2 1/2 potted cutting grown punica granatum nejikan off kade-bonsai-en (hope spelt that correctly) wanted know if best to grow plant out in normal top soil house plant mix til bit more robust and larger trunked then later swap to bonsai mix or to go into bonsai mix altogether once firdt repot once growing and then also 2nd question would be if using say bonsai jack mix (I'd appropriate) would it be best to use their organic bonsai mix or in organic mix or another mix or brand altogether. Wont lie budget isn't large or income so though wanting best plant also would like remain in confines of what's reasonable for myself (ik everyone is im sure within reason) . Any thoughts or advice to this thanks in advance

Though it somewhat depends on the size of the tree, pomegranates are arid / Mediterranean plants that prefer drier soils and are somewhat prone to root rot in saturated / organic soils. I would move it into a non-organic mix as soon as reasonably possible - understanding that in Indiana you wouldn't want to do this until late spring as soon as the risk of a late hard freeze is past. They can take some cold, but not when they have just been transplanted.

tree is only 2.5 inch rooted cutting i ended up moving it into akadama 5-7mm size in azalea pan/pot . on bottom has mixed akadama and corse perilite and on middle an dtop pure akadama i did not wash off the soil medium it ws currently in as it was dormant . i did place it on germaination mat for warmth and thus it has started to leaf out and wake up from dormancy . im confident with my grow lights and house humidty and tempatures so fingers crossed , just unsure how often to water it and such atm . and if with akadama i can bottom water via saucer and it wick absorb up through it or always top water down best . new species plant and soil medium so unsure tbh. it will be grown indoors when too cold and outside when warm enough . and when needs dormancy ill let it start to go into it yearly but before too cold and kills it move it inside a refridgerator seller said that will work long as make sure roots remain moist but not soaken wet . guess itll be a bit hit miss and well see
