Aside from pics, This thread is the 1st hit when google search: “Wild cherry bonsai”

I read through the thread to gain information on this little wild cherry volunteer.


Not sure what my plan is for this twerp.
I’ll probably check the roots and see if a repot is in order now.

I dug it up from underneath one of the oak trees in the back yard almost 2 yrs ago. It did get lots of afternoon sun where I found it.

Anyone still have one? Or are they just too nasty and problematic?

Was just reading for the same reason. It did not exactly inspire me but going to try for awhile anyway. I threw a couple into a native forest planting I did and they were the first the leaf out and seem to be thriving. There’s a couple mature trees in my side yard and they’re flowering right now. One poster said they’re nothing special and that’s certainly true but they’re actually a great scale for bonsai if my two little guys ever make it that far.

Mine is showing some of the drawbacks with the species.
Die back of Branches in favor of new shoots.
+ some leaf die off for who knows why.

Appreciate this update. Mine were no more than year old whips so it was only second year shoots I was ever going to get this season but I may not trim back this winter and see what happens with the branching. Maybe it needs a couple seasons of “solidification” to not be abandoned by the tree after pruning back. Certainly not ideal or conducive to traditional practice but maybe just different.
