Hi all,

I received a bareroot fuji cherry this winter, I potted in a root bag and kept in an unheated garage. My plan was to grow out in a raised bed for 2-3 years to build the primary structure. The soil is a mix of diatomaceous earth and a mix of 1/1/1 lava, akadama, bonsai block. It finally pushed buds, but the leaves are curling inwards toward the center. I did some Google-fu and couldn't pull anything as a concrete response. I'm leaning towards the soil holding more water than I think it is. I have it currently on an angle to help drain any excess water. I tend to have random fungal issues in the spring so I also sprayed with Fung-Oil when I saw the curling.

I would love to know how this turned out--I was thinking of air layering a cherry this Spring...

It did not make it. I think it was due to shipping during a cold snap and the roots went below the freeze floor.

Air layering shouldn't be a problem in the spring, that will give you plenty of time for root formation before fall.
