These are fast growers in my climate zone. I'm having to constantly work this one to keep it from becoming unruly. Any thoughts or suggestions?

What's your vision for it? How tall are you going for?

Pretty straight trunk, something more on the formal side?
 
Yes, the trunk is what it is. Straight as an arrow... I really only have freedom with the upper portion.

Not going for any more height. Thoughts?

In general I try to find the smallest tree within the tree… If that makes any sense. I would shoot for something like this.
 
That's a false tamarind, not a mahogany. It is actually a member of the pea family.
