About half an inch or a bit more.

You might squeeze 3/4 into it and you possibly could alter it.

Why not just use plastic bad for your soil..and use wire to tight both ends… or get a round plastic nursery pot or colander and cut to cut diameter.. where there are gaps use mesh and fill w substrate?
