This tree has been neglected for a couple years. I actually had it up for sale, because I didn’t have room for it. But, now, I’m expanding my garden, and I won’t have that problem.

So, in preparation for wiring this fall, I endeavored to remove old wire, do a light cut back, and do a general clean out.

I had already cut back the longest leggy shoots before I remembered to take a “before” picture.

I’m sure that I will do more cutbacks this fall when I wire it. It’s a bit early to wire still. The sheaths have fallen off the needle bundles.

I’ve never fully wired this tree. I’ve worked on it sporadically, but there were some structural issues I wanted to address before I went and did a full wiring. Specifically, the two lowest branches used to stick straight out to the sides. This tree was created from an airlayer. And the front of the trunk was the bottom of a branch of the mother tree. So the bottom two branches were the two primary secondary branches. And they formed a pad.

Well, I wanted to bring them both forward towards the viewer, and not straight off left and right. It’s taken me a couple years using guy wires to pull them forward.

Fall fun wiring for a day! Lots to work with and tree looks healthy.
