Hey all. As my trees continue to grow and appear to have made it healthily through repots and prunings, I’m curious if anyone does/recommends preemptive fungicide/insecticide/miticde spray and if so, what kind do you recommend?

This might be a broad question I know, considering different species call for different needs but I’m really looking for a blanket recommendation and trying to keep it simple.

Thank you!

This absolutely depends on your location and the species of trees you're growing. As an example, when I lived in GA, treating my JBP regularly with fungicides was necessary to prevent significant needle cast issues. Here in MI, it's really not a problem, so no more spraying for that. My junipers have had spider mites each summer in both locations, but I don't spray until I find them on a tree.

Fwiw, dialing in your horticulture for your trees, with adequate sun, water, and ventilation/space between trees on the bench, can go a long way toward keeping your trees happy/healthy.

I should have stated I live in CT, zone 5 I believe. And yes, ideally doing all the right things should keep them healthy rather than a spray! Just kind of curious as I’ve seen many people talk about preemptive sprays.

Thanks!

Yes in areas that are prone to fungus, it is a good idea to spray as a preventative.
I usually dose with Bonide Infuse granular early in the season (late April). It is a granular systemic so takes time to work into the plants.
Then during the growing season I alternate between Daconil and a copper based spray at least once a month, some recommend every 2 weeks
