My tiger bark ficus has been accepted for the September US National Bonsai Show. I want to repot it into a shallower and wider pot to make the tree look bigger. The tree is 20" tall and 36" wide. I have been thinking of using a a cream color oval pot with lip; I saw a ficus with a similar type of cream color pot at the recent Austin bonsai show, I really like the contrasting combination. However, I could not find such a pot. I only have a 16" cream color oval pot, which is too small for this tree. I can buy the green oribe or light blue 18 1/2" Reiho pots online; but have not decided how good they will look with my ficus. Perhaps an unglazed dark brown pot will also look good with the tree.

What do you think and any suggestions?

If you have a pot that will fit my tree and are willing to sell, please let me know. Thanks.

Congratulations! That certainly is a beautiful tree. I like the cream colored pot but it does seem a bit too feminine for such a commanding tree. The green oribe looks to be an interesting possibility.

I think it would look outstanding in the cream oval pot. Either way very good tree, be sure to post a follow up picture.

Thanks. I am tossing between the green and cream. Good to hear your comment on the feminity using the cream pot.

Thanks, I am still going back and forth with the green or cream pot.

I do like that other one...(ficus)
Except I think you are on the right path fully mossing.

The new pot is wider too?

Lovely tree BTW!

You do not have your location in your profile, so if you are in the Americas I would contact some of our best potters, discuss options with them and then have them make a custom pot. Best of all worlds.

Thanks Sorc. New pot is wider. Have another light blue rectangular pot with rounded corners to try out. Will take a photo to post.

image.jpg image.jpeg Dear friends,
Just came back from the US National Bonsai show award banquet, very surprised and, of course, very happy to receive the best Tropical Bonsai award given by the Bonsai Federation of Peurto Rico, and my wife's kusamono also received the best accent plant given by Bonsai Travel. Two awards in one display!

Thanks everyone for the pot selection suggestions and Redwood Ryan's photoshop of the tree with cream color pot.
