A couple weeks ago I bought one of those kits where you grow them. I followed all the directions, and it is in the refrigerator for 20 days. (until the 20th) It says germination 100% guaranteed.....? I was going to grow it as a regular tree, but now I'm thinking about turning it into a bonsai. My questions are: how long will it take until it starts to look like a real tree, is there any specific way I should grow it, and is it even possible? Has anyone else ever grown one as a bonsai? All of those are, of course, if it even germinates... ;)

Hello bonsaiboy. This belongs in the "other conifers" section. Pines are not redwoods. However, if you have a redwood, it will be about 12-15 years plus before your tree will start to look like a decent bonsai. If it is a pine 15-20 years plus. This is based on optimum growing conditions and much experience. Also, planting the trees in the ground for a decade so they mature faster.
