Hey all,

i’m quite new to bonsai. had a ficus a couple years ago, but it sadly passed away when I went on a holiday and a friend took care of it.
this year I’m back with 4 small cuttings of a port afra.

i have a plan for all but one. It’s got nothing but y shapes, and i’m not sure where to cut to get rid of them. I have two options in mind:

the first one would be to get sort of a windswept tree using some wire, with all the branches growing towards the left. This wouldn’t get rid of the y shaped trunk, however, but maybe it’d work with the front of the tree changed a bit more to the right.

second option i could plant the cutting as a twin trunk, and get rid of a branch, some movement in the trunk.

Looking forward to hearing your ideas and suggestions.

All best!

I'm a rookie but I like the blue and ornge structure possibilities below and would probably change the angles of both slightly tilted a bit more...put outside in the summer then take it from there! I have a couple nice p afra I bought from home depot end of summer discounts, can't wait to repot and chop them up!!

I am a beginner this year also with this species.
I have several youngsters. It will be fun to watch your progress with it.
I have one called portulicaria “minima” it has smaller leaves. I like it a lot.
Have you seen the videos from little jade bonsai on YouTube?
