It was my fathers tree and he was under the impression it was Glyptostrobus pencillis. I dont think so unless its the pond cypress grafted onto the Chinese swamp cypress? I am considering chopping it as it has a good new leader. I've got two trees in one. Have yet to be successful with cuttings, This was last summer. The tree is just coming out of dormancy now. Any advice?image5[4449].jpgIMG_7820.JPGIMG_7824.JPG

So you will be cutting the graft off?
no either where the first branch of the ascendens (now the second branch) comes off where the new leader is. Or the second branch of ascendens (now the 3rd). The first branch is the compound leaf style of the distichum.
Or I might just leave it as a specimen tree? The new leader is in the right place, I could air layer the top I suppose? I wonder if the cluster of branches from the root stock will eventually take over the tree if I do this? At first I removed it but now I'm letting it go.
