After cutting sides of box down and removing some peanuts...

Finally removed from main shipping box...to get unwrapped. Amazed at the care he put into shipping! This was tied down as well as taped down with packaging tape. And the box inside the box...tied down. Amazing...

Steve from Plant City Bonsai was wonderful...on the phone and his care to ensuring my tree and pot arrived in one piece. Very satisfied with this bonsai nursery!!!

Thank you Adair for giving me contact information...though...I believe I ended up choosing a different tree than you seen unpacked. I am beyond thrilled with my purchase. Thanks again!

We go on vacations near there every few years and I have to stop every time we go (with my wife patiently waiting in the car). I always end up buying something and I always end up wishing I lived closer so I had more time to look.

Lucky you...for just being able to make a pit stop and see personally what he has even if just while away on holiday. But he's been great...sent me photos...I believe I have another one that may come my way...waiting on photos. After speaking with him again thanking him for the care he puts into shipping.

Maybe a good thing he isn't closer, or you may have to sell a kidney or something to buy all the bonsai that you want to take home. Lol

Your probably about as close as I am, about a 9 hour drive for me. I'd really like to attend some of the workshops he offers.

If I were closer though, I would definitely be in marriage counseling

I do live pretty close.. Might have to make another trip soon!

Our vacations are to hiking spots that have waterfalls in the area...though...we still keep going back to hiking trails in Ohio. (Hocking Hills) Might have to see...if any good hiking trails in that area.;) though this year it's back to Hocking Hills with the kids and dogs. Promised them...it's like home away from home there.

Lol yes, I could see marriage counseling could happen with living near such a place.

Waterfalls? OMG!!!

Tallulah Falls is called the "Niagra of the South". Water tumbles down 5 separate water falls thru the deepest gorge east of the Mississippi.

Nice State Park. The river was dammed in the 1920's for hydropower. So, the falls are tamed somewhat, but a couple times a year they open the valves and let it run like it used to. The kayakers go crazy for it!

Oh, sorry.... this is bonsai site...

Plant City is great. Steve does his best to get in good material that is fun to work with. He tries to have workshops at least once a month, often even more. He has great 30 year old procumbens junipers, if that's your thing.

I teach JBP classes, three times a year: Fall for needle pulling, wiring and styling, Spring for repotting, and Summer for decandling. Steve has been on me to give more workshops, maybe on zelkova.

He just got in a ton of Bald Cypress trunks, perfect for making forests!

I may have to see if we can plan a visit that way then...when they open those valves! I will definitely google more info for next year. ;) (an excuse to get down that way allows for waterfall talk.;) )

You my friend are a great enabler...and I thank you! :o

just a question:

You only need one of those right?
How much tree shopping can I get for a kidney?
Might just be worth it then

I imagine it depends on where said kidney is sold and to who.

Once again...very pleased with my purchase. I ordered a Kojo No Mai from Plant City and again nice quality packaging went into it's getting here safety. Nice material as well...

I found the best way to deal with them...is call Steve....and he sends you photos of trees that your interested in. And you work like that...and get the tree you see and choose from.

Never purchased anything from this vendor but after seeing this I will keep them in mind. A few weeks ago I received a $90 ume in the mail from a domestically recognized bonsai vendor, publisher and "artist" for the last 30 years in a box with no peanuts, no packaging material untied...

I will not give up his name, or that he use to live in PA now South of me to not be the odd ball out...Many have had different experiences with this person when I probed for feedback on here so Ill leave it as I had bad luck...:)

I appreciate this thread...

 Wow...that couldn't have turned out well...sorry for your bad experience. But, definitely have high regards to this nursery's material and shipping method.

Thanks for updating this thread, I had missed it the first time!

(Now referring to the comment by Chuchin)

I have to say, I haven't ordered a lot of trees through the mail, but the ones I have were always packed very well. Never had a tree arrive just thrown in a box without any packaging material or without the tree being well secured in its pot (and to the bottom of the box). Hard to believe someone established would actually send a tree that way. I have ordered (and received healthy, well packed trees) from Wee Tree in Oregon, Don Blackmond, Meehans Miniatures, Brent Walston (evergreengardenworks.com), and a few miscellaneous ebay sellers.

Chris

Yep, I'd agree with Chris regarding Brent Walston. I'd also add into the short list of outstanding vendors Chris Kirk and Andrew Smith, both have an outstanding variety and quality of materials as well as exceptional care in their packaging.

Andy Smith, somehow forgot him...have 2 trees from him and they were well packed (burlap bonanza so no pots, but still). Also met him at the National Show in Rochester and he was very willing to offer advice regarding the trees (ponderosa pines).

Me and my son stopped by Steve's place back during the summer on our way to do some trout fishing....I told them upfront I couldn't purchase anything because it would have to stay all day in the car and the heat would surely kill it.....They still treated us like we had a million bucks to spend with them. It's less than 2 hours from my house and on the way to one of our favorite quick vacations spots..... Helen Ga.

Here is a link to some pics I took during our visit....
