I’m about to finalize purchasing my first house so I’m excited. I’m also trying to plan now , it’s an older home but lots of charm with a lot of updates except for some electrical work I’m doing to it , and a back yard water line. There is a water line on side of house , but I need to obviously run a water line to the back yard. There is a deck that also extends out the back so I’d have to dig into the ground regardless to reach where I plan on having bonsai benches , square foot gardens and a greenhouse on one side. Does anyone have any experience cutting into foundation and running a in ground water line? Is it worth doing myself or should I hire someone . If anyone has done this , do you remember how much the materials cost along with the professional work?

I've done a lot of plumbing in my day, and like all things "it depends". I'm a little confused with your comment "cutting into foundation". Are you on city/mains water or are you on a well? Does your house have a basement? When you say there is a "water line on side of house" do you mean a hose spigot?

Hose spigot on side of house but there is a deck and it’s fenced off so not like I can get a long hose. I’m on main water line . Ye it has a basement

My experience is that if you have to ask if or what to do, you’re better off hiring a professional. I’d especially adhere to that with a new-to-you house. There will be inevitable unexpected things that come up or stuff you’re not thinking about.

I’m a DIYer .. I’m doing all the landscaping and hardscaping cutting stone etc for the whole yard and backyard bonsai area. I’m painting myself , I’m building a tokonome display area outside , putting pea gravel down , I drew a blueprint for the plants . The spigot , I was going to cut into the existing water line and put a ball valve there , then polish and use seal for the new cut then run shark bite pvc through the back foundation and trench it out the the tree/ garden area. I’m only nervous about drilling through the foundation and also making sure the pipe work is sound so wanted to ask if anyone here did it before

Fair enough, so am I. I just don't do much plumbing. That can get deep quick literally.
