When my wife and I visited Jasper and Banff National Parks a few years ago, I collected some lodgepole pinecones and heat treated them in a frying pan to open them and collect the seeds. This is the only seedling which germinated from the seeds (There were only maybe 25).

Its been growing in this pot for about 4 years now. I think Ill be moving it to a grow box next year to really get some massive growth into it.

Today I did a light prune and fertilization. Ill be growing one apex out as a sacrifice. The wired leader will be the new apex. This tree has very tight buds.

I’ve collected more of these than anything else and it’s neat to see one in TX, curious to see how the climate down there will shift its character.

Side note, thread title still contains (as of me writing this comment) the word “ponderosa”, in case you are able to edit (or maybe @Bonsai Nut )

Not following you on the title? Also, Im in NJ. lol.

Anyway, my regular shore pine is doing great and some locals also have some ponderosa so I expect good things!
