Hi all,

I got a large nursery Picea Globosa, and I feel like the tips may be starting to turn a bit. I had planted it in the pot, in the ground, as a means to not have it be right in the deep clay soil I have. It was planted in the pot up to the pot edge, and the surface covered with black garden wood chips.

I took it out today and have it in the same spot, but not buried or covered. It was from a nice nursery, and it was exposed to full sun and doing very well for some time when I got it. Wondering if maybe overwater, lack of oxygen, or what you all think. The internal branches and buds all look icy blue so doesn't seem like a cast thing or something that wild IMO.

Thanks for any suggestions. 20240615_185233.jpg20240615_185254.jpg20240615_185302.jpg20240615_185341.jpg20240615_185451.jpg20240615_185356.jpg

This is actually Picea pungens a variety named “Globosa”. It is also called Colorado Blue Spruce due to the icy blue cast of the needles which is caused by a waxy exudate on the needles. In full sun the icy boye color is most intense but in more shaded locations the color may fade to plain old green. They prefer their soil on the moist side but well drained.
