Picked this one up today at the nursery, I think I got a pretty good one, cost $20.

I cut two branches down low that felt too thick.
What do y’all think
 
Yes good movement :) I'd go ahead and get the bark off the jins while it's easier done.
These guys age up pretty quickly. When you repot it, give it some room to begin with.
Foliage is kind of prickly and mine always displays both juvenile and adult foliage constantly.
 
some beef on that trunk,! what's the diameter? tons of potential for 20 bucks. Post some more photos of different angles!

I would use some cheap steel wire with vinyl tubing for protection and go ahead and guy wire some of the branches that you plan on keeping for the design down a bit. Easy to do early and will help you visualize the tree better. Keep your thinner branches in a tapering sequence in mind for your final look.

Consider getting started on a little bit of shari work as well.
