Orchard tree to Bonsai?

Any one have progression pics of creating Bonsai from an Orchard Fruiting/Flowering tree? The pics could be from anywhere. Also, do you think any of the nice old Ume in Japan come from old orchard trees or are they mostly either collected in the wild or grown from seed/cutting for the purpose of bonsai?



A friend of mine says he has acres of old half dead almonds and offered for me to come take a look. Probably will not turn into anything, but I hope to take a look just in case

Would be good if you could pull it off. Almonds have exquisite flowers. Unfortunately, many are grafted onto peach which is short lived.

Enter "volcano plum" in search. Hard to find interesting branches on fruit trees but they do exist. Also wiring young branches and letting them grow out over time can be fruitful. (sorry)
