Nick Lenz Pot - Early Work

I was really sad to hear of Nick's passing a few days ago. He was a huge corner stone in the bonsai community and ironically his works were some the first that introduced me into bonsai. His artistry was just top notch and his work always made me think in ways other bonsai haven't. His pottery is some of the best out there and I've always wanted to own a pot of his. I wanted a way to honor his memory and figured the best way is by owning and appreciating his art.

I picked up this early work pot of his from American Bonsai Tool & Supply and just am blown away. It's 8"x6"x1.5". I couldn't find a lot on him hand signing pots, but looks like a few floating around out there, mostly from his really early work. Can't imagine a lot of bonsai potter's out there signing Nick L on a very old pot. I think this pot just screams a nice smaller maple down the road. I currently don't have a tree worthy of this pot, but maybe one day. I just wanted to share with you guys!

I would be interested to know approximate year, but at this point I have a feeling the only one that could have answered that is gone.

Marked with what? There are no numbers on the pot and a pencil mark that says Nick Lenz. Nick Lenz signed his pots with an "NL" on the bottom. This is not marked.

That is his later work this pits his early work , not trying to argue w you lol.

I understand what you’re saying. I’m under the impression this is part of his early work, pre-signature. I’d have a hard time believing American Bonsai is trying to gyp people and I imagine they’re just slow to take down listings.

Haha I have one I’m working on, but he’s a long way from this nice of a pot.
