newly aquired satsuki azaleas

A couple of 30 year old satsuki azaleas that I recently acquired from a collection. they are thriving in my coastal climate.

Not sure. I had three of them, sold one and am undecided on these 2.

So I very much doubt these are in my price range but I did by a satsuki to give keeping one a try-- what is your typical winter care? These are evergreen,no? I plan on putting mine in my sunroom during the winter here in Colorado but fear it may get too warm.

I think they are considered semi-evergreen but when fully dormant they don't need light. Don Blackmond used to keep his in an unheated, unlit garage and after speaking with him on satsuki care I plan on doing the same. Can't speak on care specifically for Colorado, though.

If you're growing them in MI, I'm certain I can do the same in Colorado! Thank you!

I do/need to employ the moss atop the soil method though due to excess dry at my altitude. I can grow j maples fine here with shade and a wind block-- I'm applying much the same process to my one azalea but with more sun.

Our sun intensity (UV strength) is pegged on the high end-- but I think the azaleas will be fine once hardened off.

Of course, they need to be heavily cut back and a form in mind but hell, why not ask Kathy? Ne-agari wth possibilities and shuld be happy on the lost coast.
