New to Portland, OR. Too late to air layer this year?

I have an Arakawa Maple I'd like to air layer. I'm not 100% sure on the timing since I'm new to the Portland, OR area. It's late in the season but I'm hoping due to the milder weather I might be lucky enough to be able to air layer this year. What do you all think? Would it be foolish to try this year?

I'm hardly expert but I'd say 'go for it'. I think worse that could happen is you don't get roots and have to re-wound in the spring. But forecast for this week is hardly what I'd call 'milder weather'

Thanks for the response! It's actually the heat wave that's made me decide the opposite. I'm going to play it safe and hold off until next spring.
